TechRadar reports that OpenAI is beginning to show ads in ChatGPT for users on Free and Go subscription tiers in the United Kingdom. The move follows the initial US ad pilot in February 2026 and subsequent expansions to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, and South Korea.

According to OpenAI, ads are limited to logged-in adult users on the two lowest tiers. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education plans remain ad-free. The company says ads will not influence ChatGPT's answers and that advertisers will not receive content from user conversations.

OpenAI also stated it does not plan to show ads to minors. The UK expansion marks a significant step in the company's push to monetize its large free user base without raising subscription prices.
