The Wall Street Journal reported, in a story picked up by Reuters and Data Centre Dynamics, that the Pentagon is in talks to lend around $5 billion to AI cloud provider Fluidstack. The loan would come from the Office of Strategic Capital, the unit that lends to companies doing work it considers critical to national security — past recipients include rare-earth suppliers and drone makers. Notably, the funding is described as going toward manufacturing capacity for data center components rather than expanding Fluidstack's own footprint. Fluidstack was founded in London in 2017, has since moved its headquarters to the US, and is building capacity in New York, Indiana, Louisiana and Texas. The deal is not finalised and the terms could still change.
