CNBC reports that Microsoft will deploy AMD's new Helios racks in its Azure data centres, joining Meta, OpenAI and Oracle as early customers. Helios is AMD's first rack-scale AI system and its most serious challenge to Nvidia so far: 72 Instinct MI455X GPUs paired with EPYC Venice CPUs and Pensando networking, with 31.1TB of HBM4 memory and up to 1.4 exaFLOPS of FP8 compute. Microsoft plans to use it for frontier model inference and a new Azure instance family, the ND MI455X v7 series. Shipments begin in the second half of 2026. AMD told CNBC it expects to book tens of billions in data centre AI revenue from 2027, mostly from Helios. Worth watching: whether a credible second supplier softens the GPU pricing everyone builds on.
