OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Work, an autonomous agent built into ChatGPT that pairs with the newly public GPT-5.6 models, Bloomberg and 9to5Mac reported. The agent can research topics, draft documents and spreadsheets, and build simple web apps over multi-hour sessions with less hand-holding than before. OpenAI is also folding its Codex coding tool into a single desktop app alongside Chat and Work. ChatGPT Work rolled out first to Pro, Enterprise, and Edu plans, with Plus and Business access coming in the following days. The launch positions ChatGPT as a direct rival to Anthropic's Claude Cowork, pushing leading chatbots further from single replies toward unsupervised, multi-step office work.
